Shaykh Mouhammad Mateen Butt
Shaykh Mouhammad Mateen Butt was born in Kitchener, Ontario, and was raised in Cambridge, Ontario. His commitment to the sacred sciences of Islam began early in his life when Allah (SWT) blessed him with the ability. After primary education in Cambridge, Shaykh Mateen completed the memorization of the entire Holy Qur’an in Buffalo, New York at the renown Darul Uloom Al-Madania, an institute of higher Islamic education, fulfilling his parents’ long held desire at the tender age of only 14. Shaykh Mateen never stopped there, he continued his higher Islamic education path and successfully graduated with a designation of Islamic Scholarship in 2010. His expertise include but are not limited to:
- Arabic grammar, morphology, semantics, vocabulary and literature
- Islamic Creed (aqīda)
- Exegesis (tafsīr) of the Qur’ān and the science of exegesis.
- Islamic Jurisprudence (fiqh) of the Ḥanafi School (madhab).
- Comparative studies on all 4 recognized schools (Ḥanafī, Shāfi’ī, Mālik and Ḥanbali)
- The science of juristic methodology (usūl al fiqh).
- Prophetic Traditions (ḥadīth) and the science of ḥadīth.
- Pronunciation of the Qur’ān (tajwīd) and the science of intonation of the Qur’āan.
- Islamic History
After his formal education, Shaykh Mateen honed his learnings by teaching and leading his local community in Cambridge, at the Cambridge Muslim Society, Jamia Umar Al Farooq. There he acted as a teacher of basic Islamic studies, an Imam, leading prayers and ceremonies and also as their instructor for the memorization program of the Holy Qur’an. He fulfilled these responsibilities for over four years before moving to Barrie, Ontario.
Shaykh Mateen currently resides in Barrie, with his wife and joyous child. There he is the Imam and the ‘Director of Religious Affairs’ at the Barrie Mosque, Noor-Ul-Islam. He fulfills many responsibilities including, leading prayers, conducting ceremonies, organizing and participating in community outreach, and teaching Arabic, Islamic, and Quranic studies.
Additionally, Shaykh Mateen is a registered minister of religion and a licensed marriage officer in Ontario. Further, he is honored to be affiliated with many acclaimed organizations including, the Government of Ontario – being a registered clergy with, the Canadian Council of Muslim Theologians (CCMT) and the Canadian Council of Imams – being a member therein, the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre and Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care – providing spiritual care at, the Canadian armed forces at Base Borden – providing occasional spiritual care for and the Simcoe County District School Board – being an honored speaker for.
