History of Barrie Mosque
Noor-ul-Islam Ontario, also known as the Islamic Association of Simcoe County, and affectionately referred to as Barrie Mosque, traces its roots back to October 14th, 1977. This association was established with the vision of bringing together Muslims from diverse backgrounds residing predominantly in Simcoe County. From its inception, the primary objective of the association has been to foster an environment conducive to the flourishing of Islam, offering Islamic education, and organizing religious and community activities.
On June 30th, 1989, Noor-ul-Islam of Ontario took a significant step forward by purchasing a property on Little Lake Drive, Barrie, Ontario. While this acquisition marked a milestone, it soon became evident that the location did not adequately cater to the plans and future growth of the community. There was a longstanding aspiration among the Muslim community in the area to establish a mosque that could adequately serve their needs
Alhamdulilah, on June 21st, 2004, by the grace of Allah (SWT), Barrie and its surrounding areas were blessed with the fulfillment of this dream—a fully-fledged mosque located at 155 Ferris Lane. This new facility spans two floors: the upper floor houses the main prayer hall, while the lower floor accommodates various community activities, including rooms for educational purposes, a kitchen, and washrooms
In January 2024, we celebrated a significant milestone in our journey. We completed an expansion of our masjid, which includes a dedicated lobby, two additional prayer halls on the upper floor, and a new basement. Furthermore, we are proud to announce the completion of our state-of-the-art, fully equipped ghusl room for the preparation of deceased bodies. This expansion represents our ongoing commitment to meeting the evolving needs of our community and enhancing our facilities to better serve the spiritual and practical requirements of our members.
The journey from humble beginnings to the establishment of our current mosque represents a testament to the dedication and perseverance of our community members. As we continue to grow and evolve, we remain committed to serving as a beacon of faith, knowledge, and community service for all who seek spiritual guidance and fellowship
