Imam Mateen's Journey

- Imam Mouhammad Mateen Butt was born and raised in Kitchener and Cambridge, Ontario, respectively, where his journey into the sacred sciences of Islam began at an early age, a gift from Allah (SWT). After completing his primary education in Cambridge, Imam Mateen achieved a remarkable feat by memorizing the entire Holy Qur’an at the prestigious Darul Uloom Al-Madania in Buffalo, New York, fulfilling his parents' cherished aspiration at the tender age of 14. His thirst for knowledge and dedication to his faith led him to pursue higher Islamic education, culminating in the attainment of an Islamic Scholarship designation in 2010.
- After completing his formal education, Imam Mateen served his local community in Cambridge at the Cambridge Muslim Society, Jamia Umar Al Farooq. During his tenure, he assumed various roles, including teacher of basic Islamic studies, Imam, leading prayers and ceremonies, and instructor for the memorization program of the Holy Qur’an. He dedicated over four years to fulfilling these responsibilities before relocating to Barrie, Ontario.

Imam Mateen's Community Role

- Currently, Imam Mateen resides in Barrie with his family and serves as the Imam and Director of Religious Affairs at the Barrie Mosque, Noor-Ul-Islam. In this capacity, he leads prayers, conducts ceremonies, organizes and participates in community outreach efforts, and imparts knowledge in Arabic, Islamic, and Quranic studies.
- In addition to his religious duties, Imam Mateen is a registered minister of religion and a licensed marriage officiant in Ontario. He is affiliated with esteemed organizations such as the Government of Ontario, the Canadian Council of Muslim Theologians (CCMT), the Canadian Council of Imams, the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre, Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care, the Canadian Armed Forces at Base Borden, and the Simcoe County District School Board, where he is honored to serve as a speaker.
