General Guidelines
Obtain a marriage license from your nearest city hall by visiting the clerk's office with valid identification, a requirement for both partners.
It's optional, but the bride may choose to be represented by her Wali, a male relative or guardian, during the marriage proceedings.
Two adult (baligh) male Muslims are required to act as witnesses during the ceremony.
The amount of the dower, to be paid by the man, should be mutually discussed and agreed upon by both parties prior to the Nikah ceremony.
